Magpie Custom: Mutable Instruments - Ripples Panel
This 8hp, lasercut aluminum panel is powder coated with a sandblasted geometric design and industrial grade two-part white epoxy silk-screened on top.
The design is a reconstruction I did of an Alhambra palace Moorish tiling pattern based on an isometric grid. I first became interested in these tiling patterns when they had been pinpointed as a turning point for MC Eschers art as he felt he had stumbled upon a garden of mathematical wisdom that had been forgotten to the ages. Indeed, Marcus du Sautoy in his TED talk on Rotation Symmetries says the Alhambra palace contains 22 of the 23 possible combinations of rotation symmetries. </geometry nerdery>
