Magpie Custom : Mutable Instruments - Rings Panel
For the Rings panel we considered a number of design approaches and settled on a slightly literal design using a ‘Nested Apollonian Gasket’. This is a fractal generated from triples of circles, where each circle is tangent to the other two. It is named after Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga.
This graphic is at the limit of detail we can currently get out of our process and is quite pleasing to look at. Available in Mirror Polish black which shows the detail better and Matte which is more subtle (Matte finish will be coming soon)
for the curious heres a google search for “Indras Pearls” which is a book by Felix Klein

Please note: This fractal is vector and therefore very CPU intensive, It pushed my 12 core 3.75ghz computer with 24 gb of RAM to the limit. You may not be able to open it without a fast computer. Sorry....
